DEMOCRACY

& CORRUPTION

Because of my time at the statehouse, both as a staffer and a nonprofit advocate, I’ve had a front row seat to the increased burdens on voting accessibility. I was active as they reduced the days of voter registration, passed voter ID laws, hindered absentee ballot return days, and continued making it harder and harder for people to vote. I will not tolerate these attacks on our democracy—we need to see more voices in our government, not less.

Gerrymandering and infringing Ohioans’ voting rights must end. Ohioans deserve better than this. Our democracy needs to be protected. When Ohioans are able to participate in our democracy fully, our government is more reflective of their will and more effective in solving their problems. Voting is a right.

Gerrymandering

One of my first political experiences was as a Voter Protection Team intern on the Obama 2012 Campaign. I’ve been a poll worker or poll observer as often as I can. I love voting and our democracy! That’s why I traveled the state, leading phone banking and other volunteer engagement, to help pass congressional redistricting reform. I will never help people ignore the law or the will of the voters when it comes to those reforms. 70% of Ohioans want fair maps and they deserve a voice in the statehouse.

Ending gerrymandering is a critical issue to preserving our democracy. The promise of reform has been mostly smoke and mirrors. Despite promises, we have not seen an end to this tactic. It’s not fair to Ohioans when politicians put their thumb on the scale and tip balance in their favor. Voters should pick their politicians, not the other way around. I support a truly independent redistricting commission.

Corruption

During my time as an Upper Arlington City Council Member, I was recognized for going above and beyond defending our democracy. I received the Judge Florence E. Allen Outstanding Public Service Trailblazer Award in 2023 from the League of Women Voters of Ohio in recognition of my efforts.

My track record proves it: I am a supporter of our democracy and I will do everything in my power to support your right to vote and end corruption. I support overturning Citizens United and getting money out of politics. As a candidate, your accessibility to me is not predicated on a campaign contribution. I believe our government has a duty to keep community at the forefront. All human beings are valued and should be seen that way by their elected leaders.
