HOUSING

As a teenager, my single mother struggled to support our family and we experienced homelessness. I understand, more than most, the impact that kind of instability can have on young, developing minds. I fundamentally believe that every person deserves a roof over their heads and that the government has a responsibility to ensure that happens.

I have more than a decade of experience related to drafting legislation, conducting policy research, and helping constituents. As an Upper Arlington City Council Member, I supported the creation of the Bob Crane Community Center. As a State Representative, I will introduce a bill that will require landlords to provide a ledger and lease agreement when initiating an eviction proceeding. Not all jurisdictions in Ohio require this, and I find that unacceptable. It denies residents their right to due process and makes it difficult for them to defend themselves. Furthermore, the scarlet letter from an eviction proceeding can make it impossible to find future housing. It is the moral and ethical thing to do.
